HEART OF BASS is a non-profit based in the SF Bay Area who does humanitarian work and mobilizes dance music lovers to get involved in fund-raising for social issues. BRAP DEM! Recordings teamed up with HEARTS OF BASS to present: HEARTS OF BASS - I LOVE JAPAN VOLUME 01.

The label contacted various producers asking for tunes. The outpouring was so great the compilation will come out in 2 volumes. Spanning the spectrum of bass music, from Dubstep to Garage to Drumstep to Glitch to experimental bass riddims, there is something for everyone. All money will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross. Volume 01 contains an amazing set of tunes all donated and some created just for this compilation. This is a snapshot of the freshest and most progressive producers up from the underground to the ears of listeners.

The artwork was created by L.A. based artist FARRON LOATHING who donated the piece which will also be made into a limited edition print with all proceeds going to Japanese Quake relief.

Some might say 90's hip hop was the epitome of all that is street, urban--"real hip hop" if you will, as Das EFX once said. After all, Biggie put out "Ready to Die," NAS triumphed with "Illmatic," and Dr. Dre ended the decade with "Chronic 2001". Futhermore, from this era of realness, Graintable takes much of his influence -- add a learn-ed jazz background and you've got some melodious mid tempo ammunition.

Will he take the bling, benji's and button pushing glory? We'll find out Saturday, December 11th at Chop Suey, Seattle.

As i've been in hiatus for months, what better way to give ya'll some aurythmic treats, then from local phenom, Katie Kate. Seattle based, singer/songwriter/producer/rapper/classical pianist... you get the picture, is making moves right now with her versatile expose of sounds. Having first noticed her nearly 4 years ago, at an alley party in the Wedgewood section of Seattle, with a cheerful rendition of R.Kellys' Ignition Remix, I could not help but keep an ear out for the moves she would be making in the years to come.

Just recently, she's released to the public, her self produced single, Bodyout Princess, declarative of her oh so powerful songwriting skills. Kate was gracious enough to provide me with the stems for a remix, which I must say, was one of my favorites to work with to date. Enjoy!

Brostep is what's hot in the club. Most commonly known for it's hi energy, abrasive mid-range, often coupled with familiar snippets of lyricism. This sub-genre is stirring up the same controversy as did, "Jump-Up" when it became "Wobble" in the world of d&b. Those against are calling it "tasteless," and "musicless." I say, it's for the dancefloor.

The first, one from up and comer, Richie August, making waves right now, with his tunes showcased on an international level. Once again, look out for his side project, Hulk, with none other than Claw of TrillBass, and keep a look out in 2010 for their new label "Brotown Records."

Next is Seattle's own Surpass aka Yoko Brohno, a new comer to the game, but no stranger to DJ'ing with 10 years under his belt, giving us a little taste of his capabilities in the lab. Surpass is also owner of Alterkation Dubstep, currently taking submissions for future releases. Look out for ALT004, out soon on most major digital retailers. And keep your ears open for new project with Chicago(USA) based Richie August, as they've joined forces to bring you HULK. With their first EP forthcoming on Reid Speed's Play Me Records, expect pure dancfloor murderation. And word on the street is these two are startin up a spankin new label, BroTowm.
